The Eight Fold Pith* - 08:08am 08/08/08

On this day, and at this time, I find myself reflecting on my favorite number.

The luscious and curvy No. 8.

Thinking back on my early years, learning to count, learning to write, building items into clusters of 2, 4, 6, 8! I never knew just how much I DID appreciate the comfort of round, slightly bottom heavy numbers, taking them for granted.

And an awesome Canada Day it was

What a fabulous day. Sleep in, swim with the kids at the local pool in the beautiful hot sunny day with the amazing breeze blowing.  The temperature had to be about 30c but with the water and the wind… WOW. I can’t remember another wicked day like it for a long time. Happy making. Continue reading ‘And an awesome Canada Day it was’

Most perfect of days

if i could fly....

My kids are swimming at the pool with Gramma. The water is beautiful blue and clear, the air is absolutely perfect at 25 celcius, the wind gracefully peeling off the 2 or 3  degrees of heat to make it breathtaking. This is why I love Winnipeg, people. You can’t understand the beauty until you have seen the awful nastiness of winter burned away. You should try.

Carlin woke me up

Remember when you woke up?

That point in life where consciousness shifted from childhoods’ self-centric view to a more self-aware worldly view of life, where the centre of all things migrated from inside oneself to about 6000km below your feet?

For me this was around the age of 12 or so.

EDIT: Kevin Smith puts it much better than I did (you jerk!) and i must heartily agree, Carlin at Carnegie was what seriously started it all for me (as well as the radio bits, they coincided that summer)

however…

On the wishlist

Wow, the iPhone is almost affordable. I am going to start working on theme-ing websites for iPhone format. There are some format templates available, and Apple provides some very powerful tools.

1/3 Off (of 2008)

Well, winter came and went, things changed and then reset, people came and left and came back for more. Work has been great and small, exactly where I want it to be. Continue reading ‘1/3 Off (of 2008)’

Ok I know I haven’t posted in ages, and its sad that the reason I’m posting THIS is due to an announcement from Apple.

Am I that much of a fanboi? yeesh, I guess I am.

Anyways, here it is… Leopard is coming out in 10 days!!!! from today, probably less, or even released already by the time you read this.

dead stars are good for everyone.

we are all made of stars carcassesI’ve mentioned in the past how much I love Google Maps, Google Earth, and Google Mars

We need Google Skies

after watching today’s APOD post I got to realizing I’ve never seen the heavens in such a way, zooming from ‘eye’ level to high powered close up of some celestial object.

My imagination could accommodate such ideas as satellites flying around planets, and robots crawling planetary surfaces, of blobs of gas and star refuse floating along the cosmos sittin’ pretty…

but how it relates from a here-to-there perspective, the progression from naked eye to high power zoom…
yes there are simulators. Some fantastic ones, but they aren’t actual photographs, they are computer generated objects based on real space-time mathematics. Astounding, yet still there’s a certain detachment from the user in real-space.

watch this again, or if you haven’t already, you better watch it at least once!
